5 Reasons to Visit St. Joseph, MO this Fall

Fall is an ideal time to make a visit to St. Joseph, Missouri. Located on Interstate 29, about two hours south of Omaha and about 30 minutes north of Kansas City, St. Joe is home to some amazing and unusual museums. Throw in some Fall events, and great Fall color, and you’ll want to start planning your trip now.
Fall Color
One of the things that gets us to a locale during Fall is the beautiful colors on the trees. St. Joseph offers a great opportunity to take in this wonder of nature. Take a walk along the Missouri River after stopping in to the Remington Nature Center.
Museums
St. Joseph has some amazing museums.
The Glore Psychiatric Museum is known as one of the most unusual museums of the United States, as it tells the history of the treatment of mental illness used in the United States. It is rumored that the museum may be haunted by souls of people once treated at the original facility.
Pony Express Museum tells the history of the Pony Express, which started its route from St. Joseph.
Patee House is a great museum for the whole family with everything from a carousel to an 1860 train.
Walter Cronkite Memorial is a beautiful tribute to one of the most prolific journalists of our lifetime.
Great Eats
JC Wyatt House is a gourmet meal brought to you in a Victorian mansion.
Try Boudreaux for some cajun flavor.
Grab some Neapolitan pizza at Il Lazzarone that was fired in an oven with a temperature at about 1000 degrees.
Art
Take a walk downtown for great views of murals, architecture and sculptures.
There have been several new murals added to the downtown area over the last couple of years.
Some of the architecture in St. Joseph results from some of the earliest millionaires who lived in the area during the mid-1800s.
Take in some of this year’s downtown sculpture walk. There are 17 sculptures located throughout downtown from national artists.
Haunted St. Joseph
The Voices of the Past Mount Mora Cemetery walking tour takes you into the past to the stories of some of the early residents of St. Joseph. This year’s tours are scheduled for Oct, 17-18, 2019. PumpkinFest is located on the grounds of the Pony Express Museum. From a Great Pumpkin Mountain and a carnival-type atmosphere, this event is fun for the whole family. This year’s event will be the weekend of October 11-13, 2019.
