The King will live on during Elvis tribute at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater

My family has been Elvis followers since I can remember.

My oldest sister, as I recall, was a huge Elvis fan. I remember as a child watching an Elvis concert on TV with her.

I remember how sad and upset she was when the King passed away in 1977.

Then, as I got older, Elvis played a role in my immediate family. My eldest daughter was an Elvis fan. She loved “Young Elvis,” as we referred to him.

She says she’s outgrown him, but can you ever outgrow Elvis and his music?

Our youngest daughter has Elvis songs on her iPod Touch. So, I ask again, can you really ever outgrow Elvis?

My daughters and their mom visited Graceland during a southern trip earlier this year. They enjoyed it.

Lisa and I ate at the Elvis restaurant when we were in Memphis a few years ago. I remember buying my eldest an Elvis clock that used his legs as part of the clock.

Elvis lives on in the memories of older people and in the music with younger people.

The King lives on in Omaha, too, as the Orpheum Theater hosts “Elvis Lives” concert Saturday, Jan. 11th. The show starts at 8 p.m.

We will be attending courtesy of the Omaha Performing Arts. However, we encourage Elvis fans of all ages to attend, as well.

Tickets start at $35 and are available at http://www.ticketomaha.com/productions/Elvis-Lives, the ticket office at 402-345-0606 or at the Ticket Omaha office inside the Holland Center.

The concert will cover four periods of Elvis’ performances via multimedia images and music acts.

Performers include three Elvis tribute artists.

Dean Z will perform as the 1950s Elvis, as well as the 1968 comeback Elvis. Dean Z is the 2013 Ultimate Elvis winner.

Bill Cherry was the 2009 Ultimate Elvis. Cherry will perform as Concert Years Elvis.

“Performing a tribute to the greatest entertainer the world has ever known is a dream come true,” said Cherry, via the performing arts center’s news release.

Jay Dupuis will portray Movie Elvis. Dupuis has been a finalist in the Ultimate Elvis contest.

Disclosure: Thank you to Omaha Performing Arts for the complimentary tickets. However, all comments and thoughts belong to us. We will be open and honest regarding service and/or attractions.
