A member of the original “Star Trek” crew will beam his way to the Omaha Metro area for the first (annual?) Omaha Comic Con convention May 29-31. The three-day festival will be hosted at the Mid-America Events Center in Council Bluffs.

Walter Koenig – Chekov – in the cult-favorite sci fi series that ran on NBC in the 1960s will be among about a dozen actors, writers and artists attending the event.

We saw Koenig become the last member of the original “Star Trek” franchise to have his star unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. The late Leonard Nimoy (Spock) delivered the introduction speech. Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura) and George Takei (Sulu) were on hand.

“Star Trek” has always been a favorite of mine. I prefer the original series. Lisa prefers “The Next Generation.” I have also had a fondness for “Star Trek Voyager” (that Seven of Nine may or may not have had an influence in).

The Omaha Comic Con isn’t all-things Star Trek, though. It’s a celebration of science fiction, fantasy, comic books, animations, cosplay and much more.

In addition to Koenig, another well-known actor visiting will be Jamie Bamber – of “Battlestar Galactica” and “Law and Order: UK” fame.

Tara Buck, who played Ginger on HBO’s “True Blood” is scheduled to attend.

Not to be left out, comic book gurus will be on-hand. Jordan Boyd, an artist for comic books, such as Marvel and DC, will be featured.

CW Cooke, an author whose work includes an adaptation of “Anne of Green Gables,” will be on hand to discuss his work. His featured works also include “Solitary,” “Violet Rose” and “Baneberry Creek.”

Cosplay will be available throughout O Comic Con. Erin Lei, April Gloria, Michael Wilson and Alexa Heart will be on hand dressed as characters. They are credited as some of the best character portrayers for Cosplay.

Anyone dressing for Cosplay can take part on a red carpet show on May 30. That will be worthy of photo opps.

Vendors are expected to take up a portion of the Mid-America Center floor. Matt Fujan, the organizer of the event, is the point of contact for further information for people wanting to set up displays.
