Midtown Crossing helps Omaha celebrate season with Holiday Lights Spectacular

Midtown Crossing
Mix of lights and music help Midtwon Crossing celebrate with its Holiday Lights Spectacular.

Grab a hot drink and make your way to Omaha’s Midtown Crossing for some “Jingle Bell Rock.” The outdoor retail and entertainment center mixes a light show with seasonal songs Thursday-Sunday until Jan. 1st. So, there’s still time to catch the 20-minute show over the next couple of weeks.

The third annual Holidays Lights Spectacular – which starts at 7 p.m. – attracts area residents, visitors, shoppers and holiday enthusiasts. We enjoy catching the show, which features a mix of holiday songs, from traditional to pop-oriented. This year, we visited during the coldest weekend of the season. The thermostat said it was 9 degrees above zero when the show started. There were a couple dozen people joining us as we enjoyed the show.

The show combines lights on the center’s main three buildings on the western edge of Turner Park with lights on the ground. They work in sync as the lights change colors to reflect the season. Red, green and blue stream down columns on the buildings as the music plays.

On the ground, colors pop against the white-lighted trees that ring the park. Watching the colors change against the trees is perhaps my favorite part of the show. I like how the ground-level colors balance out the colors of the buildings.

I love how the colors complement each other during the songs.

Check out the tree display at Turner Park before or after the show. The white lights accent the center’s buildings and other decorations.

Since we were hungry following the show, we grabbed dinner at Crave. This restaurant is fast becoming a favorite. We had participated in a menu sampling there a couple of weeks ago, and since then I have been craving (no pun intended) the Argentine ribeye steak. So, Lisa and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Crave. And I had my steak.

I enjoyed a perfectly made Argentine ribeye at Crave following the Holiday Lights Spectacular.

Just outside Crave is the Midtown Crossing Christmas tree. It’s an attractive display.

The Christmas tree stands in a prominent spot at Midtown Crossing.

Since temperatures are going to be seasonal (which means 30s and 40s) over the next couple of weeks, grab the family and your out-of-town visitors and head down to the Holiday Lights Spectacular. You’ll have a great time.
