Oakland, Iowa, to host ‘Junkapalooza’ festival Sept. 13-14

Oakland, Iowa, is home to the Nishna Heritage Museum and the Heritage Garden.

The community was hit by an EF-2 tornado last spring. As the Pottawattamie County community rebuilds, its heritage garden needs help.

That’s where Junkapalooza 2014 fits in. It’s a flea-market-type festival with food vendors and vendors selling merchandise that is vintage, antique, repurposed, or crafts and goods made with a vintage-feel or from vintage products. Basically, it can be a little of everything from vintage water coolers to gourds to license plate art. Junkapalooza is an ideal place to purchase housing interiors, Christmas gifts, or antiques.

Junkapalooza 2014 takes place Sept. 13-14. The Saturday session runs 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday runs 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Funds raised with augment grant money awarded to the museum for the Heritage Garden.

The cost of admission for the event is $4 for adults and $2 for children 3-12, while kids under 2 are free. Discount coupons can be picked up at the museum prior to Monday – Sept. 1 – if you sign the guestbook. All admission proceeds will go to the Nishna Heritage Agricultural Gardens. Vendors are still welcome.

The museum will have local musicians play over the course of the 2-day event, as well as giving away free balloons to children who stop by during Junkapalooza.

In addition to Junkapalooza, nearby Walnut is having its annual antique festival, so you can always make a full day trip of it.

Oakland is located off Interstate 80 at exit 40.
