Fit by 40 – Off to a Slow Start with Water
This first week has been tough. I know that there will be tough weeks ahead on this journey to be Fit by 40. I only plan to be completely honest of how it’s gone.
I ate indulgently, of course, for my birthday. And my goal of drinking water? I am embarrassed to say that I probably only drank 12 oz. of water the whole weekend. My normal liquid of choice? Diet Pepsi. Preferably Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi in a 24 oz. bottle. On a typical day, I would drink one before work and two more while at work. I have been hearing more and more about how Diet Sodas really don’t help in the weight loss arena. So, I am trying to cut back my intake of soda altogether and drink more water, and perhaps mix in some tea.
On most days prior to now, I admit that I did not crave water. I still don’t. I am not one for tap water nor usually plain water. I have learned to bring flavor packets to throw in my water bottle. I have also used the flavor tool Mio. It is easy to throw either of these in my purse or keep at my desk at work. I have a water bottle at work and need to get another one to have with me everywhere else. When we go out to eat, I had already been switching to water with my meal most of the time. The original reason reason my husband would probably say is because I’m cheap. It is expensive to get soda when eating out. Soda can range in price form $1.00 to over $3.00. I know there are refills, but on average, I probably only drank maybe 1-1.5 glasses. I will indulge in soda if we go somewhere to eat and know that we are going to be staying to watch a sporting event.
So, overall, how did I do this week? Well, first of all, I realized I was not off to a bang and needed to focus better. Tuesday through Thursday, I had 25 oz. water per day. That equated to one fill up of my water bottle. I have cut down so far to one soda at home and 1 at work. So, cut down from 3-2 bottles of soda a day. It’s a start and that’s what this is all about. It’s all about making the choices to change my old unhealthy habits.
My goal for each week is to continue to make improvements on the following week and add something new. This week, increase water intake AND add walking more. I am going to start wearing a gift that I got last year – Fitbit. His name is Freddie. My initial goal for this week, is to be realistic and make sure that I get at least 5,000 steps per day.
How’s everyone doing on their first week of making it a great 2014? Are you tracking your progress?
