This is where Tim and I call home. We are proud of our city. There are so many things to see and do, and we are always finding new nooks and crannies to explore. Of course, we have our favorite places that we love to go back to over and over, as well.
We have the top rated zoo, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, in the world, as ranked by Trip Advisor. It’s currently undergoing a $70 million renovation, which will include the African Grasslands. You can read more about the grand plans here.
Another great attraction is Lauritzen Gardens, which just opened a new addition called the Marjorie K. Daugherty Conservatory. We look forward to checking out this new year-round experience very soon. We usually try to make it to Lauritzen at least 3-4 times a year. They have great annual exhibits, including the Fall Chrysanthemum and the Holiday Poinsettia shows. One of our favorite parts of the garden is a model railroad garden. This is one of the reasons it is a popular stop during Railroad Days, an annual festival in Omaha and council Bluffs celebrating all things railroad.
One downtown attraction that we enjoy visiting is the Durham Museum. This museum was Omaha’s Union Station. This is why you will see full-sized railroad cars in the lower level, as well as a working model railroad set. This museum, like many, has rotating exhibits, as well as permanent ones showing Omaha’s treasured history.
We don’t have any little kids, but sometimes we “borrow” some. We have taken our nieces to the Omaha Children’s museum a couple of times. This museum has impressed me with the amount of hands-on activities and the imaginative play that it inspires. I will admit that I have not been to many children’s museums, but this one seems to be one of the better ones I have heard about.
These are just a few slices of the many things that you can discover while visiting Omaha. These are also things that you will be able to find in our last birthday giveaway! We think that when you finish checking out all of these great attractions, that you, too, will be saying Omaha! Omaha!
