Tim’s walking challenge: 3 months down, ahead of the game
The walk across America continues.
After three months, I have “traveled” 774.11 miles. Based on Googlemaps.com, I am at Grand Junction, Colorado. It was a challenge to average the steps per day, but I did t. I averaged 10.43 miles per day.
I started with 3,082 miles to go. My overall goal is 8.46 miles per day to meet the goal of walking from the LA city hall to Portland, Maine. That is about 17,884 steps per days for me. I have averaged 8.6 miles per day for the past 90 days. That’s an average of about 18,182 steps per day.
I raised my average from 7.63 miles per day in January and February to 8.6 miles for the first three months. that helps a lot.
My goal is to average at least 10 miles per day March through September. That will cut the number of steps dramatically for the final three – and cooler – months of the year.
It’s weird that if I were physically walking the route, I would have departed the Los Angeles city hall steps and walked through the Mojave Desert in California, visited Las Vegas, and made my way past St. George, Utah. Grand Junction is the first of two planned “stops” in Colorado. My April goal is to get to Fort Morgan, just northeast of Denver, or possibly to Sterling, which is near the Nebraska border on Interstate 76.
Well, my trek is calling my name. Next update will be early May.
