Tis the season: My favorite Christmas songs

Everyone has their favorite holiday song, be it traditional or contemporary. I’ve thought about what my favorite songs are this time of the year. You know, the ones you HAVE to hear or it’s not the holiday music season.

Starting with my favorite and then listing the rest of my top 10 (not in any particular order), I have to go with Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” as my all-time favorite Christmas song. I have loved this song since I was a teenager.

Here is my top 10 list. I hope you enjoy. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars (thank you Casey Kasem):

  1. “Feliz Navidad” – Jose Feliciano.

  1. “Christmas is All Around” – Billy Mack (aka Bill Nighy). The “hit” song from 2003’s “Love Actually.”

  1. “All I want for Christmas is You” – Olivia Olson. My second favorite song from “Love Actually.”

  1. “All I want for Christmas” – LeAnn Rimes. I love the horn section she uses on the song.

  1. “Jingle Bell Rock” – Hall and Oates. I think I like the 1980s video more than their actual version of the song. But, hey, it’s a nice memory.

  1. “White Christmas” – Bing Crosby.

  1. “It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas” – Johnny Mathis. He always had a smooth voice.

  1. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” – Andy Williams. This is one of the first songs I have to hear when it’s “officially” Christmas music season. The Wall Lake, Iowa, native sings the song better than anyone.
  1. “Christmas Vacation” – Mavis Staples. From the soundtrack of my favorite Christmas movie.

  1. “White Christmas” – The Drifters. This song brings back special memories. My youngest daughter Mallory performed in her first play “The Night the Elves saved Christmas.” I believe she was in the third grade. They used this song during the show at the old Emmy Gifford Children’s Theater. She climbed on top of the trolls as the elves fought to prevent them from stealing Christmas.

Honorable mention: “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt. No one had the voice for the song like she did; “Last Christmas” by Wham (George Michael); “Peace on Earth (Little Drummer Boy)” by Bing Crosby and David Bowie; and “Wrapped in Red,” by Kelly Clarkson.

I’d love to know what your favorite holiday song is. Please note in comments on our Facebook page.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays to each of you and your loved ones.
