Trick-or-Treat: Nebraska’s hay minions are back to save the day

Super hero Minions greet passers-by along Highway 77 near Beatrice

Be careful of things that go bump in the night. But, if you need help, call out for the super heroes…as in the Super Minons!

The latest incarnation of the Beatrice-area based minions feature a trio of super heroes – Bat Minion, Super Minion and Capt. Ameriminion (as I call them). They’re assisted by Husker Minion.

This is our third time checking out the hay bale minions. Previously, we’ve checked them out in late winter. But, when we saw they were out and dressed as Super Heroes, Lisa and I decided to make the trek to see them. They’re located about 15 miles north of Beatrice on US Highway 77.

Our first visit to check out the hay bale art, the bales were decorated as minions from the movie “Despicable Me.” Last time, they added a friend, “Husker” Minion. “Husker” is still with them. I’m sure many football fans once considered “Husker” Minion a super hero. He will regain his powers soon.

Super heroes became this year’s theme when one of the group’s members designed her minion as Batman. That led the main artist to come up with Captain America and Superman.

In addition to the super hero characters, a “special” minion was added to the team. The artist and her husband became parents this year, so the fifth member of the display is a baby minion.

Several people were at the site when we arrived. This has been a great attraction to the area. I’m not sure about others, but each time we’ve visited, we end up in Beatrice either for lunch or to do some sightseeing. So, it helps the local economy.

It’s fun to see families with kids of all ages get excited about the minions. Adults and children posed for photos with the minions.

The Super Minions will be on display at the farm field until planting season starts in 2016, usually in April or May. They are a must-see in southeast Nebraska.
