Valentines Day memory: Enjoying Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls’ reputation for being one of the most romantic spots in the world is well-earned. The falls provide a beautiful backdrop for people to get engaged, married or just enjoy a romantic stroll.

Our visit to Niagara Falls in the Fall of 2006 still stands out in our memories. We visited the area for two days and had a lot of fun. The Niagara Falls consist of three sets of falls – the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Canadian Falls.

The Niagara Falls were mesmerizing. We spent a lot of time walking around, taking in the views from both the American and Canadian sides.

Niagara Falls State Park allows visitors to get close to the falls. The park had a nice trail that ran along trees and the water.

When visiting Niagara Falls, we recommend grabbing a cruise boat ride with the Maid of the Mist line. The boat ride takes visitors as close to the falls as possible. You will want to wear the poncho provided, because water sprays as you approach the falls. It was a fun experience.

Lisa surprised me when we checked into our hotel. She had booked a suite that had a view of the Niagara Falls. I was like a kid in a candy store.  I grabbed a chair and sat in front of the window watching the water pour over the falls.

Once we headed back out, we decided to check out the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario. I loved seeing a statue of a Canadian Mountie.

After enjoying dinner at the Hard Rock Café, we checked out more of the tourist area of the city.

It seemed like it had a carnival atmosphere. In late October, people were still out and about in the area. It was fun seeing the souvenir shops and tourist attractions that provided additional fun for people.

Taking an evening stroll along the falls provides a romantic cap to an enjoyable visit to one of the world’s natural wonders.

As we wrapped our stay at Niagara Falls, we headed to the small community of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. We enjoyed a nice walk around town and grabbed a quick lunch before heading to the border on our way to Cleveland.
