Chappell’s – A Hall of Fame Dining Experience
Chappell’s Sports Bar and Museum is a must-visit in Kansas City, Missouri. The sports-themed restaurant challenges many free-standing sports museums. From hundreds of football helmets hanging from the ceiling to sports memorabilia almost 100 years old adorning the walls, this place is a must-see for sports fans in search of great attractions and good food.
The helmets catch your eye right off the bat. As you walk in the main entrance, they greet you in the bar. As a Nebraska fan, it was great seeing a Husker helmet in the front row. Helmets from around the world hang in the bar. Canadian football teams and European league teams have helmets hanging in the rafters alongside the American high school, college and pro teams.
I found it cool that there were helmets from the National Football League, as well as the old World Football League (1970s) and the United State Football League (1980s). Some helmets were autographed, including the great Joe Montana. 
Some of the teams I recognized were the Frankfurt (Germany) Galaxy, Iowa Barnstormers (Arena Football League), New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs. Some of the college teams included the nearby Mizzou Tigers, Kansas State Wildcats, Iowa State Cyclones , plus some smaller division schools, such as Northwest Missouri State Bearcats.
Other sports are represented, as well – baseball, college and pro basketball, and hockey. 
Baseball jerseys hanging on the wall included the Kansas City Athletics (before they moved to Oakland) and the KC Royals. The Royals’ jersey was an autographed one from manager Dick Howser, who guided the 1985 team to the World Series championship.
The Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues Baseball have their spot on the wall, recognizing the important role the team played in baseball during segregation. 
Pictures and other sports memorabilia can cause a person to let their meal go cold while they travel through time with the history in the building.
Speaking of food, the meals are delicious, filling and affordable. Most of the menu items run below $10. The food is abundant on the plate. You cannot leave hungry.
Lisa had a fried fish/seafood platter during our visit. I had a flank steak special, with an added salad. Every ounce of our meals was delicious.
The menu offers a nice assortment of appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, steaks and such. It even has a lite food menu.
The bar appears to have a nice selection of alcoholic beverages for the choosing.
While I was roaming the restaurant shooting some pics, Jim Chappell introduced himself. He was very friendly. He asked where I was from. When he heard Omaha, he asked if I had seen the Husker helmet. Of course! I told him we had been there before. My sister and brother-in-law took us there previously. He hoped we had a nice visit and meal. Quite impressive. 
As for Mr. Chappell, has was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. The Hall of Fame is located in Springfield.
In addition, Chappell’s was recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the top 10 sports museums in the United States.
So, I strongly suggest visiting Chappell’s when in the KCMO area. If you are a sports buff, you will love it!
