Great Comic Book! O Comic Con 2017 to feature celebrities, artists and cosplayers

Cosplayers at O Comic Con
One of our all-time favorite cosplay outfits.

He challenged Obi Wan Kenobi and lost. He then took on the X-Men. Ray Park has carved out a nice career as an action and sci fi movie and television actor.

Cast as Darth Maul in the first “Star Wars” prequel, “The Phantom Menace,” Park’s character sought to capture the princess, but had to take on Jedis, including Obi Wan. As you may know, Obi Wan was Luke Skywalker’s Jedi mentor. A young Obi Wan (portrayed by Ewan MacGregor) kills Darth Maul during a key fight scene.

Park next portrayed Toad in the original X-Men movie in 2000. Again, his character was a villain.

The Scottish actor headlines the celebrities and other artists attending O Comic Con 2017 the weekend of July 7-9. The third-year event will again be held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. Joining Park as celebrities will be Jonathan Lipnicki (the little kid from “Jerry McGuire”), Mat Fraser, Marty Grabstein, James C. Leary, Rob Paulsen, Carroll Spinney (Sesame Street’s Big Bird), David Yost, Naomi Grossman and Alison Arngrim. You may know Arngrim from her role as Nellie Olson on the TV series “Little House on the Prairie.” Grossman is making her second appearance at O Comic Con. The celebrities will also be available for photos and autographs (fees may apply).

Celebrities appearing at O Comic Con in Omaha
At O Comic Con 2016, actor Sean Gunn shared his memories of his gigs on “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Gilmore Girls.”

Creative guests include Kansas City-based comic book writer CW Cooke. We have a copy of his take on “Anne of Green Gables.” Nebraska native Bob Hall has served as an artist and teacher. He has been an artist for most of Marvel’s major comics series, including “Captain America” and “Thor.”

The celebrities and artists will be featured on panel discussions. Panels are a great opportunity to get close to your favorite celebrity and ask questions about their careers, shows or general topics. O Comic Con has featured some outstanding celebrity panels.

Of course, there will be cosplayers and cosplay panel groups. Convention goers will see several fellow attendees dressed as their favorite character. It’s great to see people of all ages dressed in costume, providing their own interpretation with the character. Celebrity cosplayers will include Chris “Papa Bear” English, who has been a cosplayer for five years; Oh My! Sophii, a Kansas resident who has been in cosplay since 2009; IBOT (Iron Brothers of Topeka and Benito Garcia and Wetworks Sfx Studios.
