Hendricks County’s Bread Basket Cafe serves great comfort food and desserts
Who can pass up a slice of breakfast pie? When you visit Bread Basket Café and Bakery in Danville, Indiana, you can most certainly count on enjoying a slice of dessert after finishing a delicious breakfast.
Having outgrown their original location in another town, the owners sought to move their restaurant to Danville. They wanted to be near the town square, site of the Hendricks County courthouse, as well as other restaurants.
However, their search ended up with an old house a few blocks from the town square. The house is a perfect fit for Bread Basket Café and Bakery, as the setting provides ambiance for the comfort food. It’s like going to grandma’s house for a homemade meal.
While the café serves also serves lunch, our visit came during breakfast hours. We enjoyed one of the best breakfasts we’ve experienced during our travels. My ham and cheese omelet included fresh tomatoes. You could taste the freshness. Judy, one of the co-owners, said the café uses local produce as often as possible.
My breakfast came with a side of freshly made country potatoes and honey oat toast (as one bread choice). The meal was filling and delicious.
Lisa went with a breakfast sandwich, featuring ham, cheddar cheese and fried egg. Her side was a cup of oatmeal. She enjoyed her breakfast, as well.
Remember when I mentioned breakfast dessert? I meant it. But not, a fruit parfait or anything like that. Oh, no. Pie. And more pie. A coconut called out my name when we arrived and glanced at the dessert case. It literally opened its eyes, looked at me and whispered, “Tim. Psst. Check me out. You know you want pie for breakfast.”
So, when asked if we’d like to try some of their desserts, we jumped at it. Ok. I jumped at it. Besides the awesome, amazing, yummy coconut cream pie, Lisa chose a chocolate brownie.
The bakery produces homemade bread and cakes in addition to the pie. Everything looks appetizing at Bread Basket.
We loved our visit and highly recommend visiting Bread Basket Café and Bakery for breakfast or lunch, as well as dessert.
