Jack Stack BBQ, pizza top Kansas City menu choices (and carrot cake)
Anyone who has followed us knows we likes us some local cuisine when traveling.
Well, we have made it a point to make sure we hit the major barbecue joints in the Kansas City area. We’ve been to Oklahoma Joe’s, the original Arthur Bryant’s (only place to eat Bryant’s), Winslow’, Gates and Wabash (Excelsior Springs).
Our recent KC trip brought us to Jack Stack. We met Toni from the CVB there for lunch. Besides great and fun company, the food was delicious.
We met at the Freight House location in the Crossroads art district area.
I had the burnt ends combination plate. The burnt ends are cut in cube style with little to no fat. The meat was cooked just right. It was juicy and tender. I added a combo of their spicy and original sauces. Yum. Yum.
Lisa enjoyed two meat combo, with turkey and brisket.
Toni chose the healthy route. She had a salmon salad.
We were going to pass on dessert, but Toni recommended we try the carrot cake.
Oh man! Heaven in a bowl is called the Jack Stack carrot cake.
The cake was so moist and tasty. The icing melted and oozed over the sides. Since lunch filled us up, the cake just added to the voluntary discomfort. However, since we couldn’t finish it then, we did take it back to the hotel for an evening snack.

Later in the evening, after (hopefully) walking off lunch with tours of the airline museums and Union Station, we headed to the Power and Light District for dinner.
We have two favorite spots – McFadden’s sports bar and the Pizza Bar. McFadden’s was bit busier for my taste, so we ended up at the Pizza Bar.
We ordered “The Works” with pepperoni, sausage, meatball and black olives. I hate onions and mushrooms, so they stayed off the pie.
It was delicious. We couldn’t come close to finishing that thing off, so we took the leftovers back to the hotel. No idea why really, as neither of us wanted any more.
I fell down on the job in not photographing the cooks tossing the dough in the air. At that point of the day, I was tired and more interested in watching the sports on TV.

Sunday, after our tour of the Steamboat Arabia Museum, we decided to grab lunch at Minsky’s Pizza in the City Market. It’s a local pizzeria.
We ordered a medium Jumbo Combo – Pepperoni, American and Italian sausage, hamburger, green peppers, mushrooms and onions. Topped with mozzarella and black olives. We left off the mushrooms and onions.
We ordered an appetizer of cheese bread. Why? Well, it worked out, as we had enough leftovers a meal later.
Minsky’s has a great array of TVs for sports watching – hockey, St. Louis cardinal, KC Royals and NBA dominated the viewing of customers.

We chose well for KC dining options. Now, we need to focus on finding good places with healthier options. Next time KC. Next time.
