New Ulm’s Best Western hotel connects to city’s German heritage

As you approach, you may forget you’re in Minnesota and not in Germany. The exterior of the Best Western hotel in New Ulm resembles a building you may see in Deutschland, but, rest assured, you’re in the good ol’ USA.
We enjoyed a nice weekend stay at the hotel during a visit to the south-central Minnesota community. The rooms are clean, the staff is professional and the amenities are nice. The lobby is inviting to guests. Guests check in at one of two kiosks. A lounge area sits a few feet away, where you can kick back and socialize in front of a fireplace.

Our room was great! In fact, one of the first things I noticed was a multiple-plug charging outlet on a nightstand. Anyone who has followed our adventures may be aware that this is an important hotel item for me. With camera batteries, cell phones, Fitbits to charge, as well as the need to plug in my laptop to upload and edit photographs nightly, having several outlets available is uber important to me.

The hotel carries the German theme – the community has a strong German heritage – throughout. A crest highlighting New Ulm was attached to each room’s door.

Walking down a hallway resembles a walk through a German village; the hotel’s hall lights look like street posts. That adds a bit of originality to the hotel.

The hotel has some nice facilities. I enjoy getting in at least 10,000 steps a day walking, so a fitness center is important to me. The Best Western’s center offers a choice between walking on a treadmill or using an elliptical.

For travelers who enjoy unwinding around a pool, you’re in luck. The hotel has a decent-sized indoor pool.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Best Western offers a small buffet featuring eggs, potatoes and fruit. You can make your own waffle with the chain’s BW logo in the middle.

You can grab a nice meal at the Green Mill restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was good. The restaurant has a few television sets located near the bar, so fans can check out their favorite team in action. The restaurant’s contemporary décor provided a relaxed setting.

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western hotel in New Ulm. We recommend staying here when in the area.
