O Comic Con 2016 line-up falling into place with ‘Buffy’ and ‘Friends’ actors
O Comic Con may be a few months away, but the guest line-up is falling into place. And quite nicely, if you ask me. Early announced guests harken back to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Friends.”
The second annual O Comic Con will be held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs July 8-10. It’s a good time to plan to be attend, as about 6,000 people took part last year. We plan to be in attendance. We had a ton of fun taking in the sights and sounds last year.
Anthony Stewart Head, whose acting filmography includes more than 105 series and movies, is probably the best known name announced so far. Most fans may likely recall him as the Librarian on the television series “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” which ran 1996-2003.
Head has appeared in others series and movies, including “Doctor Who,” “Warehouse 13” and the movie “Imagine You and Me.”
Lauren Tom is known best in our family as “She’s not Rachem” from the episode where Ross makes a list comparing the pros and cons of dating Rachel and Julie (played by Tom).
Tom has more than 150 acting credits. She has appeared in movies such as “Joy Luck Club,” as well as TV series, such as “Men in Trees,” “Supernatural,” “The Closer” and “The Newsroom.”
She has lent her voice to several animated features and series, including “Futurama,” “King of the Hill” and “Kung Fu Panda 2.”
“Gilmore Girls” vet Sean Gunn will make an appearance. He is also known as Kraglin from a little known movie called “Guardians of the Galaxy.” You may scratch your head and go, “what movie?” it didn’t do very well, as it only topped out at about $775 million worldwide at the box office.
Gunn has also appeared in almost 50 movies and series, including “Bones” and “Bunheads.”
“Star Trek” fans may recognize Jeffery Coombs. He played eight characters over the years in the “Trek” franchise, including 24 episodes on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
He’s also a voice talent, with appearances in movies, such as the “Transformers” series.
CW Cooke – a Kansas City-based author – will make his second appearance at the youthful convention. We bought a book from him, based on a darker twist to Anne of Green Gables. He was kind enough to autograph it for Lisa.
Phil Hestor, who has worked in comics for a number of years, will visit O Comic Con. He has worked on comics involving major characters, including Wonder Woman and the Green Hornet.
A featured artist, Jim Mehsling has been an animator and illustrator known for “Star Wars” cartoons, “Bounty Hunter: The Interview,” “Bounty Hunter II: Pit of Carkoon” and “Bounty Hunter 1.5: Trash Day.”
He is the creator of “Into the Void,” a comic book series following the misadventures of a mismatched space crew.
Cosplayers planning to return include Erin Lei and Michael “Knightmage” Wilson. They will be joined by Super Kayce.
